irgendwo Bereits in der Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts war es üblich, einzelne Gemälde durch einen Vorhang zu verdecken. Dies diente zum einen als Schutz vor Staub und Licht, zum anderen gewinnt das Gemälde durch die zeitweilige Verhüllung für den Betrachter an Reiz - man wird seines Anblicks nicht überdrüssig, sondern entdeckt es auf diese Weise immer wieder neu.

In meiner Serie „irgendwo“ werden diese Aspekte aufgegriffen. So verhüllen, verschleiern und verstecken Gardinen die Portraitierten. Die Vorhänge aus dünnem Stoff schützen sie vor den Blicken des Betrachters, dem Fotografen und vor der Außenwelt, die noch in Ansätzen durch den Stoff schimmert. Gleichzeitig werden die Personen durch das Verhüllen auf eine eigene Weise sichtbar, so dass sie der Betrachter bewusster wahrnimmt. Durch den zarten Schleier kommt ihre scheue Schönheit zum Vorschein. Die Abbildungen der Personen werden zu Gemälden, die vor äußeren Einflüssen geschützt werden.

Der Vorhang bietet den Portraitierten die Möglichkeit zur Ruhe zu kommen und sich für einen Moment aus der sie umgebenden, lauten Welt zurückzuziehen. Gleichzeitig sind sie nicht isoliert von ihrer Umgebung, sie sind immer noch ein Teil von ihr, doch hat die Umgebung an Lautstärke verloren.

 

somewhere Already in the 17^th century it was common usage to veil individual paintings with a curtain. On the one hand this was for the protection against dust and light. On the other hand the painting wins appeal for the observer due to the temporary disguise – one does not grow tired of its sight but discovers it again and again in this way.

In my series “somewhere” this aspects are included. So net curtains veil, disguise and hide the persons portrayed. The curtains, out of thin material, protect them against the looks of the observer, of the photographer and of the outside world, the latter still shimmering through the curtains. At the same time the persons portrayed become visible through the veil in their own way, so that the observer perceives them more conscious. Through the soft veil their shy beauty is unsheathed. The images of the persons portrayed turn to paintings which are protected against outer influences.

The curtain gives the persons portrayed the opportunity to find peace of mind and to back out from the circumfluent, loud world for a moment. At the same time they are not isolated from their environment, they are still a part of it but the environment has lost volume.
